Teks naratif dalam bahasa inggris bertujuan untuk memberi hiburan bagi para pembacanya. Oleh karena itu, teks naratif bahasa inggris yang digunakan sebagai bahan pembelajaran kebanyakan berasal dari cerita rakyat, dongeng, dan legenda.
Materi teks naratif pertemuan 2 ini kami susun dengan memperhatikan struktur RPP 1 halaman yang telah di edarkan oleh Mendikbud RI. Dengan materi yang telah disederhanakan untuk mengakomodir penyederhanaan kurikulum dan materi pembelajaran dimasa pandemi covid-19 agar tidak terlalu membebani peserta didik.

Tujuan Pembelajaran
Peserta didik mampu membandingkan fungsi sosial, struktur teks dan unsur kebahasaan dari dua teks naratif terkait fairy tales dengan benar.

Berdasarkan pembahasan materi terkait dengan fungsi sosial, struktur teks dan unsur kebahasaan dari teks naratif terkait fairy yang telah kalian lihat disini.
Bacalah dua teks di bawah ini kemudian bandingkan fungsi sosial, struktur teks dan unsur kebahasaannya dengan cara melengkapi tabel berikut.

Text 1
Pinocchio
In the past, there was a puppeteer whose name is Geppetto. He eager to have a son very much but his wife passed away several years ago. One day, he got an idea to make a puppet in order not to be lonely again. He made a puppet all day long. Finally, in the morning he had finished his work and he named the puppet Pinocchio. Soon he felt lonely again since Pinocchio couldn’t walk or talk by itself. One night, Geppetto prayed to the God to become a real boy. He always thought it on his mind in his dream.
In the next morning, he was surprised that Pinocchio was alive. He taught Pinocchio how to walk, how to read, how to speak and to do other things as human. He then studied at an elementary school. One day, Pinocchio felt bored and it made him go home late. When Pinocchio finally came home, Geppetto asked him. He said that he was on school but he wasn’t. Instantly, Pinocchio’s nose grew longer and longer and it meant that Pinocchio has lied.
The next morning, Pinocchio was kidnaped by the owner of circus. Pinocchio soon became a slave for the circus. He was so famous because he was a puppet which can talk. Geppetto worried about him because Pinocchio had not been going home for almost two days. He tried to find Pinocchio everywhere but he found nothing. When he searched him on the sea, big wave smashed him. He was then in whale’s stomach when he awoke. He couldn’t find the way to go out.
In the other side, Pinocchio finally could escape out from the circus. He came home but nobody was there. Latter on, he searched Geppetto in the sea. He got the same accident like Geppetto and he met Geppetto in whale’s stomach. Both of them got out from its stomach by making a fire. In the end of the story, they went home together and lived happily ever after.

Text 2
Rabbit and Tortoise
Once upon a time, there was a rabbit who was popular because of his pride. There was a tortoise whom he had once taunted as slow and stupid, challenging the proud rabbit to a sprint race. Actually the tortoise didn’t want to deal with rabbits, but he wanted to teach him a little lesson.
With full confidence, the rabbit agreed to the tortoise’s challenge. He wondered how the super slow-moving turtle could beat him. Then, they agreed to determine the long path to be followed for a race.
The match between the two undoubtedly invites the other animals’ curiosity. They all also want to see how the tortoise can beat the rabbit. The animals show their support for the tortoise because they also dislike the hare’s prideful nature.
A monkey was appointed as the referee to oversee the game. When the race had just started, the rabbit darted away leaving the tortoise. Not wanting to give up just like that, the turtle still tried its best and increased its running speed.
Feeling that the turtle was still far behind him, in the middle of the race he decided to rest and fall asleep. But when he woke up, the rabbit was really shocked because it turned out that the turtle had reached the finish line. Getting this fact, the other animals cheered and the rabbit came home embarrassed.
