Materi Preposition of Place – Preposition of place adalah tipe preposition (kata depan Bahasa Inggris) yang dipakai untuk menunjukkan tempat atau posisi suatu objek atau benda. Letak atau posisi itu disebutkan dengan menggabungan preposition dengan objeknya (object of preposition) yang disebut prepositional phrase.

Materi Preposition of Place

Preposition ini digunakan untuk menunjukkan letak object of preposition terhadap subject atau object kalimat. Adapun object of preposition dapat berupa kata benda (noun), frasa kata benda (noun phrase) , atau kata ganti (pronoun).

Kalimat pada gambar di atas mengandung prepositional phrase “on the dictionary” dengan “on” sebagai preposition of place dan noun phrase “the dictionary” sebagai object of preposition.

• away from (jauh dari: away from village)
• behind (di belakang: behind the library)
• beside (di samping: beside Rita)
• below (pada tingkat/posisi yang lebih rendah: below the sentences)
• beneath (di bawah, lebih rendah daripada: beneath the roof)
• between (di antara dua atau lebih tempat, objek, atau orang: between Dilan and Milea)
• by (di dekat; di samping: by the front desk)
• in (di dalam kontainer, tempat, atau area: in the box, in my bag, in Unites states of America)
• inside (di dalam: inside the packs)
• in front of ((tempat) di depan: in front of you)
• in the middle of ((tempat) di tengah: in the middle of the sea)
• near (dekat dengan (seseorang/sesuatu): near the mosque)
• next to (di sebelah: next to door)
• on (menyentuh permukaan sesuatu: on the plate, on the bed, on his leg)
• outside (dekat dengan bangunan atau ruangan tapi tidak di dalamnya: outside the church; jauh dari area, kota, negara tertentu: outside Jakarta)
• over (menutupi benda lain: over cakes)
• round (mengelilingi: round the court)
• under (di bawah sesuatu: under the freezer; ditutupi oleh sesuatu: under the snow)
• underneath (letak benda yang berada pada posisi di bawah benda lain, khususnya menjadi tersembunyi atau tertutupi: underneath the refrigerator)
